SACE program
Programs are developed in
collaboration with visiting staff to address the specific objectives of
subjects within the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
This is directly relevant to those subjects that require a compulsory
field studies component, for example
Biology
Geography
Natural Resources Management
Environmental Studies
Integrated Science
Modules of field work currently being developed include
Waterwatch/Catchment Studies, Vegetation Studies, Bird Studies and
Local History
Arbury Park staff can provide formative assessment but it is the
responsibility of visiting staff to conduct a summative assessment of
their subject field study component.
Year 12 Outdoor Education
Programs are designed to introduce
students to core elements and themes underpinning the compulsory study
sections of Living and Learning Outdoors and Environment and
Conservation. Activities focus on navigation, leadership and group
management skills and developing understandings about interrelationships
within natural habitats.
Leadership for Middle School
Focussing on Year 7 - 9 students,
these programs are designed to use the outdoor/residential setting to
focus on cooperative problem solving and team work skills needed for
student leadership in their own community. Early in term 1 is the
optimum time for these programs.
Aboriginal Studies
Students learn about traditional
Aboriginal culture in a bush setting. Activities include wiltja
building, seasonal food trails, traditional tool and artefacts and
painting using tools from the environment. Schools are encouraged to
employ an Aboriginal hourly paid instructor to provide an Aboriginal
perspective.
